Anil Deshmukh: Nawab Malik and Anil Deshmukh denied one day bail to vote in Rajya Sabha elections

The judge, after hearing lengthy arguments from all sides, on Thursday refused the temporary release of Malik and Deshmukh.

The ED had objected to their petitions, claiming that the convicts do not have the right to vote under the Representation of the People Act.

Deshmukh was arrested by the ED in November 2021 in a money laundering case.

The ED had arrested Malik on February 23 this year in connection with a money laundering probe into the activities of fugitive gangster Dawood Ibrahim and his associates.

In the Rajya Sabha elections for six seats from Maharashtra, every vote is crucial for the Shiv Sena-led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), of which the NCP is a constituent, to elect another Shiv Sena candidate—Sanjay Pawar.

After more than two decades, Rajya Sabha elections will be held in the state as seven candidates are in the fray for six seats.

Rule Shiv Sena has fielded two candidates, its MVA ally NCP and Congress The opposition has nominated one candidate each. BJP Three candidates have been fielded.

The contest is between Dhananjay Mahadik of BJP and Sanjay Pawar of Shiv Sena.
